Annandale, VA - January 8, 2025 - The Northern Virginia Girls Softball Association’s (NVGSA) opening day on April 5 will be extra special this year. NVGSA is proud to announce the 30th anniversary of its renaming on January 1, 1995. For nearly four decades, NVGSA and its predecessor the Holy Spirit Girls Softball League have been a cornerstone of girls’ softball in the region. In celebration of this milestone NVGSA is inviting new families to join the league and experience the dynamic, empowering environment that has shaped thousands of young athletes.
Launched with the motto “in the spirit of sportsmanship,” NVGSA has grown into one of the most successful youth softball organizations in the area. Many NVGSA athletes have excelled for their high school softball teams. Alumni have earned spots on the softball teams at colleges including Columbia University, the Coast Guard Academy, George Mason University, Radford University, the University of Mary Washington, and others.
“We’re incredibly proud of the impact our league has had over the past 30 years,” said Tom Meyer, President of NVGSA. “Our success is a direct result of our coaches, volunteers, players, and families, all of whom have contributed to making NVGSA a supportive environment for young athletes.”
NVGSA continues to offer a range of programs to meet the needs of every player. The league’s recreational program is home to up to 400 girls each fall and spring season. The league’s competitive travel program, Firebirds Fastpitch, features 8 teams who compete at the highest levels of softball in the region. For players looking to develop their skills in an intermediate setting, NVGSA’s Dimensions program provides a bridge between recreational and travel softball.
